It is day three for me in Vietnam. Yesterday we went for a bike ride through the rice fields that are almost ready to harvest. The sun was setting. It was beautiful! We pulled over and had a coffee. My son, Jonathan, ordered a salt coffee and I had a coconut coffee.
There were a few small tables and chairs facing the rice fields.
So refreshing!
It’s been a long time since I was on a bike. My husband and I rented bikes to drive along the waterfront in Vancouver a few years ago, but that’s about it, since my youth. As the saying goes, you never forget how to ride a bike.
Jonathan is adventurous and he finally convinced me to join him and his wife in Vietnam. I think they are what you call nomadic tourists. They have travelled the world and now it was time for me to join in their adventures. However, I have my limits. There was a cafe he wanted to take me to. I could see it in the distance. But between use and the cafe were a couple of obstacles. For me it was one bridge too far. Haha!
We turned around at this point and then we found the coffee shop, or seating place outside where we were brought our drinks.
Unfortunately my daughter-in-law was not up to adventures yesterday. I hope she is feeling better today. They met me at the airport on Thursday night. Today is Sunday. It was a very long flight to Hong Kong and then a connector flight. Something like fifteen hours for the first leg and about two more hours with a short stop in between. I had my first experience in Hong Kong with facial recognition technology and didn’t even need to show my boarding pass or passport before I boarded the second plane. I had to place my feet on the footprints on the floor and look ahead into a screen where my photo popped up and then I was good to go.
I’ve got my wifi password now. I brought my iPad with me instead of my laptop. I had enough weight to carry and I didn’t want to worry about my computer being secure. It probably wouldn’t have been a problem. I’m very comfortable where I’m staying. It’s a small Homestay. I’m getting used to the climate and all that comes with it. Since I’ve lived in the Philippines, much of this is familiar to me but that was decades ago. I haven’t been out of North America since we returned so this was a big deal.
It still amazes me that I’m here! More later…..
